How to build readership?

So I have been blog surfing lately and I must say there are some SUPER FUNNY blogs out there. I am actually a frequent visitor to a few. (You know who you are!)

But I want to make my blog fun and interesting. I always get an awesome idea for a blog then sit down and write it and it sucks.

So I am asking those who do read me- what can I do to make my blog more interesting?

Oh and a recent pic of the fam for ya!

We are minus one kid - Roo. He is camera shy.

I'm not sure if my blog is considered interesting or not. This is my thought on blogging... I post first for me and second for my readers. I try to make it interesting and something I'd want to read on others blogs. I try to write about what I know and therefore can share with others the knowledge of.

I think you have to figure out what you would want to read about yourself about...and go from there

"I post first for me and second for my readers." I agree with Lori (I'm one of her regular readers).

Talk about yourself, your day, things that happen, your views/opinions, feelings (now I have that corny song in my head!) . . . take pictures of things that crack you up or that you enjoy and share them with us.

The minute I stopped thinking about what other people wanted to read and started posting whatever I felt like posting, blogging was a lot more fun. If I get one or thirty readers--doesn't matter as long as I enjoy writing it . . .

Have FUN!!! Many people use their blogs to rant a bit, to talk about funny things their kids/hubby does, they do, to document their lives and happenings as a record for their children as they get older. Whatever it is . . . just be sure to have fun with it. Enjoy it.

I have a notepad sitting around that I'll jot ideas down--I actually HAVE to use it because I'm so darned forgetful, but it works out well to capture ideas as my day goes along.

YIKES, sorry for the long comment. BTW, I enjoy your blog! Which is why you are in my reader!!!

How about telling us some embarrassing moments? That's always fun. *cackle*

I don't know. I am clueless what makes a blog funny. I think laughing at yourself is a good start. Sharing all the stupid crap that goes wrong always makes me feel better. Some of my all time favorite funny entries from other bloggers are not even ones trying to be funny. They just have great self deprecating humor and can laugh at any situation. I like your blog though. Stay true to yourself. The blog is for you first and foremost.

I ditto the writing for yourself thing. And, always be honest and willing to make yourself look the fool..people like candor.

I think what you're doing is working. It takes time. You're getting readers, you're getting comments. If you want to expand your comments, add to the people you comment on.

Cute family! You're HOT.

Hey! As you know from reading my blog, I'm too busy to visit other blogs for two more weeks. However, I like the comments you leave on my blog, so I figured I'd make a quick trip and see what you were all about. I love your background! As you can see from my blog, I'm clueless about graphics and layout.

As far as making a blog interesting, I don't know if mine qualifies or not. For me the key is never taking myself seriously, and being able to laugh about the ridiculous-ness of my life. I also don't try real hard to be deep - I think a lot of bloggers do that and it comes off as phony.

That's my two cents. Oh, and I like your story about the bowling alley. Excellent.

oh, and I don't have a lot of readers so I don't know how much help I will be...but I try to leave comments nearly every where I've been because most bloggers will go back to see who found them. But it sounds like you're already doing that. See? I was right! I AM no help! :)
